Edward Geil's Obituary
Edward Huebner Geil, age 89, of Bolivar, Missouri passed away on Thursday evening, March 11, 2010 at Citizen’s Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, Missouri. He was born April 23, 1920 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to George Geil and Laura (Huebner) Geil. He was baptized into the Christian Faith on June 27, 1920 at the Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Milwaukee. Edward graduated from the North Division High School in Milwaukee on June 24, 1938. On August 30, 1941 he married the love of his life, Ruth Helen Elsie Rousseau in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Ruth preceded him in death on January 9, 2002. He was confirmed into the Lutheran Church on November 21, 1944 at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. He was a retired Foreman for the Allis-Chalmers Company and worked there from 1943-1985. He lived in Milwaukee his first 84 years. Three years after Ruth died he moved to Birnamwood, Wisconsin where Allen was a pastor. After Allen retired four years ago they moved to North of Bolivar near the Bolivar landing and he lived just up the hill from Allen and Mary. He was currently a faithful member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Bolivar, Missouri and before that at St. Paul’s in Birnamwood. For many years he was an elder and then head elder at Walter Memorial in Milwaukee. His family was very important to him and he looked forward to visits from his grandchildren and their families and also other family members and friends. He loved to garden and fish and spent his vacations from work fishing in northern Wisconsin and later in Michigan, Wisconsin and on Pomme de Terre. Wherever he lived he made sure he had a garden, even on the rocks of Missouri. He enjoyed watching the deer and birds and other wildlife. He was an ardent Milwaukee Brewer fan and watched almost every game. Edward is survived by his son, Allen Edward Geil and his wife Mary Elizabeth of Bolivar, Missouri, three granddaughters and their husbands, Rochelle Burke (Tim), Deborah Ritter (Steve), Rebecca Edwards (Gerrad), three great grandchildren, Cody Burke, Morgan Burke, Logan Edwards, one sister-in-law, Marion Otto of Brown Deer, Wisconsin, a niece, Karen Prahl residing in both Wisconsin & Florida, and one cousin, Dr. Karen Wiringa of Madison, Wisconsin. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Monday, March 15, 2010 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Bolivar, Missouri with Reverend Allen Edward Geil and Pastor David W. Loy officiating under the care and direction of the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, Missouri. Lorraine Straw will be the organist. A visitation will be from 6-8pm, Sunday evening at the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar. A second funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Monday, March 22, 2010 at the Graceland Cemetery Chapel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with Reverend Allen Edward Geil officiating under the care and direction of the Butler Funeral Home of Bolivar, Missouri. Burial will follow in the Graceland Cemetery in Milwaukee. A visitation will be held at the Graceland Cemetery Chapel from 10-11am prior to service time.
