Edward Gordon Simmons' Obituary
Edward Gordon Simmons, son of Otto Kenneth and Lenna Jean Ross Simmons, was born July 16, 1939, near Seymour, Missouri. He departed this life Sunday, July 9, 2006, in Cox Medical Center South, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of sixty-six years, eleven months, and twenty-three days. On February 4, 1984 he was united in marriage to Valerie Lynn McGonigal and together they spent the last twenty-two years. He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-granddaughter; and a brother, Freddie Howard Simmons. Edward is survived by his wife, Valerie Simmons, of the home; five daughters, Gwendolyn Simmons, of the home, Amy Phelps, and her husband, Charles, of Preston, Missouri, Lenna Glenn, of Seymour, Missouri, Rosie Simmons, of the State of Minnesota, and Betty Lou Wheatley, of the state of Illinois; six grandchildren, Charles Edward Phelps, Edward Eugene Crapo, Melissa Simmons, Jodie Odgen, Rodney Odgen, and Misty Liles; one great-grandson; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in Seymour, and also lived in Norwood before moving to Preston a few years ago. He worked as a farmer all of his life. Edward had made his profession of faith in Christ at an early age, and had attended the Antioch Baptist Church, near Seymour. In his spare time he enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and he liked to stay busy. Edward was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and will cherish the wonderful memories he has created for his family and friends. Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2006, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Seymour. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour, Missouri.
