Edward "Sonny" Smith (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Edward Charles Smith, better known as Sonny (82), passed away on May 14th, 2024, at his home in Bolivar.
Sonny was born in El Dorado Springs, MO on Janurary 7, 1942, to Margaret and Carl Smith. Sonny graduated from El Dorado Springs High School.
Sonny met Armie while working together and were married on March 18, 2006. Sonny and Armie had just celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary.
Sonny belonged to Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Springfield MO and was active in the Knights of Columbus organization. Sonny was notorious for his pranks, including the infamous “mongoose.”
He enjoyed making friends with anyone he crossed, country music, classic westerns and spending time with his loved ones. Sonny had a love for the outdoors, with some of his favorite memories taking place in Colorado and in the woods hunting.
He would often tell stories of the many motorcycle trips he took through the Rocky Mountains. Sonny had a large love for animals, including the many pets he had throughout his lifetime. Patsy was his prized horse from childhood, which he claimed was the fastest horse in town and would win races against automobiles.
He is preceded in death by parents Margaret and Carl Smith, sister Valerie Beaty, and stepdaughter Catalina Richard.
Sonny is survived by his wife Armetia Richard-Smith, sister Sondra O’Neal, son Jody Smith and Christina, daughter Gina Smith, stepdaughters Kelly Jenkins and husband Flynn, Michelle Murray, Ashley Porter and husband Grady, grandchildren Kaylee Smith, Jadon Smith, Alex Murray, Mia Murray, Ophelia Porter, Freddy Porter step grandchildren Mady Slinkerd and Austin Conner along with many cousins and family members.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 20, 2024, at Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar.
Burial will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in Karlin, Missouri
