Edwin D. Yeager (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Edwin “Ed” Dale Yeager, age 78, of Bolivar, Missouri passed away on Friday morning, July 23, 2010 at his home in Bolivar, Missouri after a very courageous fight with cancer.
He was born September 16, 1931 in a farmhouse near the Hickory-Polk County line on Highway 83 to Dale Yeager and Edith Elizabeth (Emmett) Yeager.
Ed attended first, second and third grades at Prairie Valley School, located on Highway 83, north of the Hickory-Polk County line. In 1940, Ed’s family moved to a farm north of Flemington, and then in 1942 the family moved to Flemington. Ed finished grade school in Flemington and attended Humansville High School, where he graduated in 1949. After graduating he did farm work. In 1951 he joined the Army Reserve and took basic training at Ft. Riley, KS. In August 1951, Ed was stationed at Camp McCoy in Wisconsin. He contracted polio and was flown to Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver, Co. He was treated for nine months and released from the Army in May 1952.
Ed moved to the greater Kansas City area and was employed by Westinghouse Electric until the company moved out of Missouri in 1960.
Ed had purchased a new 1960 Corvette from a Kansas City Chevrolet Dealer and they asked him to sell automobiles for them.
He married Patsy Ann Carpenter on June 11, 1955. They had a Western Auto Store in Wamego, KS. In 2002 They moved back to Polk County.
On September 9, 2008 he married Mary and they shared two of the happiest years of their lives togather.
Ed’s favorite times were local stock car racing and rooting for Jeremy Payne. He always enjoyed his trips to Texas and traveling in their RV Coach. Ed also always enjoyed spending time with his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bolivar, Missouri and the Masonic Lodge #76 AF & AM in Independence, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patsy “Pat” Yeager on August 24, 2006. Also his parents, his grandparents and one sister, Lena Maybell.
Ed is survived by his wife, Mary Yeager of the home, a step-son, Ron Scurlock of Bolivar, Missouri, a sister, Bobbie Ash of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and special friends, John & Sondra Gorden of Bolivar, Missouri. Also Nieces, Ronda Hughes and Sharon Downs, Brother-in-law Gene Price and Carolyn, Brothers-in-law and Sisters-in-law, Kenny and Jean Price & John and Shirley Wilson.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00am, Monday, July 26, 2010 at the Flemington Cemetery in Flemington, Missouri with Pastor Tony Mattia officiating under the care and direction of the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, Missouri. Music will be “Go Rest High On That Mountain” by Vince Gill. A visitation will be from 3:00-4:00pm, Sunday at the Butler Funeral Home Chapel. Pallbearers will be Ron Scurlock, Kenny Price, Marsh Shuler, Bob Seiner, Clinton Bevett, and Don Tessendorf. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gene Price, John Gorden and Archie Johnston.
