Edwin (Eddie) Walter Colgan's Obituary
Edwin Walter Colgan, son of Walter Charles and Emma Juanita (Stroud) Colgan was born July 16, 1951 in Springfield, Missouri. He departed this life Monday, November 8, 2010 in his home in Seymour, Missouri at the age of fifty-nine years, three months and twenty-three days.
He was preceded in death by his father; and a niece, Tiffany Colgan.
He is survived by his three children, Jeanette Colgan and her fiancé, Chris Grubbs, of Rogersville, Missouri, James Colgan, of Fordland, Missouri, and Amber Hale and her husband, Bradley, of Rogersville, Missouri; three grandchildren, Trevor Wells, of Springfield, Missouri, Dylan and Kierra Hale, both of Rogersville, Missouri; his mother, Juanita Laughlin, of Marshfield, Missouri; three sisters, Janice Smikle and her husband, Darrell, and Dana Garner, all of Marshfield, Missouri, and Marsha Lawson and her husband, Phillip, of Fordland, Missouri; two nephews, Daren Smikle and his fiancée, Lori Barnes, and her children, Ashton and Winter, and Justin Garner and his wife, Keesha; a special friend, Shiela Davis Smith, of Seymour, Missouri; Barbara (Wolfe) Kilgore, the mother of his children; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
“Ed or Eddie”, as he was known by family and friends was born in Springfield and lived in Webster County his entire life. He was a hard worker and took pride in everything he did and was a longtime employee of Hutchens Steel Processors in Seymour, Missouri, where he worked in shipping and receiving and cooking in the cafeteria. He retired from there when his health began to fail.
Ed loved God and the outdoors that He created, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially squirrel hunting and bringing home his kill and cooking it for his family and friends. He was an excellent cook and famous for preparing steaks and wildlife meats. When his failing health prevented him from his outdoor activities he liked to read and watch all kinds of sports on television, and especially liked science fiction and western movies.
He was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle, and was a kind and loving friend and neighbor. We celebrate his life and all his accomplishments and will cherish the precious memories he made for all those who knew and loved him.
Services are 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 12, 2010 in Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Seymour, Missouri with Reverend Lyle Wright officiating. Burial will be in Stewart Cemetery north of Fordland, Missouri under direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6:30-7:30 p.m., Thursday in the funeral home.
