Effie J. Henson (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Effie Julia Henson, daughter of Henry Reeves and Etta Jane Bench Elmore, was born May 16, 1920, near Oakland, Missouri. She departed this life Friday, September 9, 2022, in her home, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of one hundred and two years, three months, and twenty-four days.
Early in her life, she was united in marriage to Lowell Broyles, who preceded her in death.
She was united in marriage to Jewel Tannehill, who also preceded her in death.
Later, in April of 1973, she married Joseph Ray Henson, and they shared fifteen years before his passing on April 15, 1988.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Anita Broyles Henson; a son, Jerry Broyles; a granddaughter, Teresa Jones; and a grandson, Mike Henson; five brothers, Emmett, Wayne, Edward, Gordon, and Charles Elmore; and three sisters, Emma Martin, Irene Henson, and Edith Faye Robertson.
Effie is survived by three granddaughters, Missy Broyles, of Licking, Missouri, Renee Holley, of Lake Lotawana, Missouri, and Robin Henson Gardner, of Independence, Missouri; a grandson, Jerry Broyles II of Lebanon, Missouri; nine great-grandchildren, including Joe Williams, and his wife, Joni, of Lebanon, Missouri; several great-great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in the Oakland community and then continued to live near Lebanon for most of her life. When she was a young woman, she worked as a housekeeper at the Oakland Mansion for a time. She was always a devoted homemaker to her husband and family through the years.
Effie made her profession of faith in Christ early in her life, and had most recently attended Liberty Freewill Baptist Church.
She was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post # 4107 Women’s Auxiliary. In her spare time she enjoyed quilting, painting, and sewing. She liked planting a large garden each year and canning her homegrown produce. One year she canned 600 jars of various produce. Her family was very dear to her and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Effie was a loving grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, and was a caring friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her long lifetime.
