Elbert Luthy's Obituary
Elbert Russell Luthy, son of Albert Malcolm and Eppah Hila Palmer Luthy, was born January 14, 1922, in Lebanon, Missouri. He departed this life Wednesday, December 3, 2008, in his home, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-six years, ten months, and nineteen days. On November 7, 1948, he was united in marriage to Betty Pauline Proctor, and to this union three daughters and two sons were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Marvin, Malcolm, and James Luthy; and a sister, Margaret French. Russell is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Pauline, of the home; three daughters, Rachel Johnson, of Springfield, Missouri, Vicki Blackburn, and Hila Prock, and her husband, Ross, all of Lebanon, Missouri; two sons, Don Luthy, and his wife, Donna, and Lawrence Luthy, all of Lebanon, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Dallas Luthy, and his wife, Nikki, of Lebanon, Missouri; four sisters, Aurelia Miller, and her husband, Homer, of Mishawaka, Indiana, Joyce French, and her husband, Bill, of Florahome, Florida, Alberta Pittser, and her husband, Clyde, of Friendswood, Texas, and Guylene Bassett, and her husband, Bob, of North Platte, Nebraska; a number of nieces and nephews; several special friends and caregivers, including Don Mate, Ethel Boyer, and Stacy Powell; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in the Lebanon community, and lived most of his life in the Lebanon area. After he and Pauline were married, they made their home on their dairy farm, near Lebanon, and lovingly raised their family. In addition to operating the dairy farm, Russell worked in the radio and television repair business for several years, and then was employed by Palmer Motor and Implement Company. Later, he worked in the maintenance department for the Lebanon RIII Schools. Russell was a longtime faithful member of White Oak Pond Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he was an ordained Elder. He also belonged to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge # 192 of Lebanon. In his spare time he enjoyed working in his garden and growing beautiful flowers. He had a fondness for animals and particularly his dogs. His family was very important to him and he greatly enjoyed babysitting with his grandchildren. Russell was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he made for his family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday December 6, 2008 at the White Oak Pond Church. Burial will be in the White Oak Pond Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday evening 6-7:30 pm at the funeral home under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri. A memorial has been established to the White Oak Pond Church.
