Eleanor Waterman's Obituary
Eleanor Mary Waterman, daughter of Bernard Van Horn and Eleanor Mary Callahan Goe, was born August 18, 1924, in San Francisco, California. She departed this life Wednesday, November 7, 2007, in Christian Health Care South, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-three years, two months, and twenty-nine days. On February 22, 1946, she was united in marriage to Warren D. Waterman, and to this union one daughter and two sons were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Warren, on November 22, 1982; and a brother, Bernard Goe. Eleanor is survived by a daughter, Denise McIntosh, of Lebanon, Missouri; two sons, David Waterman, and his wife, Kathy, of Eldridge, Missouri, and Dan Waterman, and his wife, Emily, of Marshfield, Missouri; six grandchildren, Casey, Zeke, Sam, Josey, Maggie, and Cassie; three great-grandchildren, Autumn, Mia, and Luke; two sisters, Betty Coyne, of San Mateo, California, and Jane Goe, of San Francisco, California; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in San Francisco, California and graduated from high school there. At the age of eighteen she began working and supporting her mother and two younger sisters. She served in the United States Navy from November 1, 1944 until November 16, 1945 and worked in the Navy shipyards and also loading train cargo. During this time she met Warren, who was serving in the United States Marines, and they were soon married. They made their home in California until she moved to Lebanon, Missouri while Warren was serving in the Korean War. In 1962, Warren retired from the military and the family settled in the Lebanon area. Eleanor was a civil service worker in the records department for the dental offices at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri for over thirty-five years. She then was employed at Jim n’ I Clothing Store in downtown Lebanon before going to work in the Laclede County Public Administrator’s Office for Cleo Miller. Eleanor was an active member of St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Lebanon. Her faith was very important to her and she enjoyed the fellowship her church offered. In her spare time she enjoyed bowling and had played on several leagues. She and Warren also enjoyed playing Pinochle with Teamon and Dixie Waterman on Friday nights. She liked listening to music, particularly old musicals, and was an avid reader. She took great pride in her appearance and always enjoyed going to the beauty shop. She loved her family dearly and especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Eleanor was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2007, in the St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Butcher Cemetery, near Eldridge, Missouri. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6 - 7:30 p.m. with a Rosary Service to be given at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri. Memorials to St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church may be made through the funeral home. Return to top
