Elizabeth Grimes (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Elizabeth Irene Grimes, daughter of Fay and Marjorie Whipple Hopkins, was born June 16, 1945, in Lebanon, Missouri. She departed this life Thursday, June 4, 2015, in Mercy Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of sixty-nine years, eleven months, and eighteen days.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Melba Chaffin, and Eula Beal.
Elizabeth is survived by her husband, Richard Ripley, of the home; a daughter, Jacquie Shipma, and her husband, Michael, of Columbia, Missouri; a son, Jay Grimes, and his wife, Tammy, of Stoutland, Missouri; four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jayson, Paige, and Nic; seven great-grandchildren, Landon, Caden, Journey, Chase, Bennett, Emma, and Lorelei; a brother, Otto Hopkins, and his wife, Charlene, of Lebanon, Missouri; three sisters, Doris Michael, and her husband, Dennis, of Kansas City, Missouri, Dora Weatherly, and Miriam Williams, both of Springfield, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; her former husband, Jim Grimes, of Stoutland, Missouri; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was raised in the Phillipsburg and Brush Creek areas and attended Conway Schools. She then made her home in the Lebanon and Stoutland areas and lovingly raised her family. Throughout the years, she was a devoted homemaker to her family, and also worked as a seamstress for many years. She had worked for the H. D. Lee Company, Appleby Boats, Landmark Boats, Lowe Boats, and Tracker Marine.
Elizabeth was a very spiritual person and had attended Liberty Freewill Baptist Church.
She enjoyed taking road trips and particularly liked going to Bennett Spring. She possessed a delightful sense of humor, had a sharp wit, and a contagious laugh. She had a keen interest in politics and was steadfast in her convictions. Her family was very dear to her and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Elizabeth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her sixty-nine years.
Memorial donations may be made to the Lions Club Eye Bank, and left at the funeral home.
