Ella Mason's Obituary
Ella May Mason, daughter of Lawrence and Esther Shaw Bateman, was born March 3, 1931, near Phillipsburg, Missouri. She went to live with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 7, 2007, in her home, near Grovespring, Missouri, following a courageous battle with heart disease, at the age of seventy-six years, one month, and four days. She was united in marriage to John E. Mason and to this union four daughters and four sons were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Johnny Eugene “Butchie” Mason; a brother, George Bateman; a sister, Virginia Maskey; a nephew; and a niece. Ella May is survived by her seven children, Carol Ann Bell, and her husband, Norman, of Corinth, Texas, Don Mason, of Eldon, Missouri, Sherlyn Butcher, and her husband, Dennis, of Big Bear City, California, Marilyn Seames, of Lapeer, Michigan, Thomas Mason, and his wife, Lancy, of Springfield, Missouri, Tim Mason, and his wife, Joan, of Camdenton, Missouri, and Melody Bubniak, and her husband, Greg, of Catoosa, Oklahoma; sixteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; three brothers, James Bateman, and his wife, Pat, of Grand Junction, Colorado, Ted Bateman, and his wife, Cheryl, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Gary Bateman, and his wife, Arlene, of Grovespring, Missouri; four sisters, Dorothy Howell, and her husband, Jack, of Springfield, Missouri, Helen Hicks, and her husband, Joe, Grovespring, Missouri, Doris Kehoe, and her husband, Ron, of Bull Head City, Arizona, and Judith Kennedy, of Wheatland, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Vivian Bateman, of Lebanon, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She made her home in Missouri for all of her life and was a devoted homemaker and loving mother to her family. In addition to managing her home and raising eight children, she also worked as a caregiver to the elderly for several years. Ella May was an incredibly strong woman mentally, physically, and spiritually, and dearly loved the Lord, her family and her friends. In her spare time she enjoyed making quilts and working in her many flower gardens. Her family was always foremost in her life and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very grateful to her brother, Ted, for providing her a home the last several years. Her personal wish was to leave this earth at home in Grovespring, Missouri, and on Saturday she received her wish. Ella May was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and many friends. Services will be held aat 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2007, in Mt. Zion (Cuba) Freewill Baptist Church near Grovespring. Burial will be in the Cuba Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time in the church. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
