Ellen May Black (Hartville)'s Obituary
Ellen May Black, daughter of Champ and Hester Spurgeon Highly, was born October 22, 1939 in Carthage, Missouri. She departed this life Sunday afternoon at her home in Mansfield, at the age of seventy-eight years.
Ellen is preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Ruth Hart; and a brother, Leroy Highly.
She is survived three sons, Doug Black and his wife Brenda, of Lebanon, Missouri, Jim Black of Mountain Grove, Missouri, and Travis Black and his wife Christie, of Mansfield, Missouri; ten grandkids, Allen Hart and his wife Cheryll, Bobby Black, Matt Black, Leatha Cook and her husband Christopher, Joshua Kuhn, Jacob Kuhn, Kadie Black, Cheyenne Black, Aaron Black, and Addison Black; nine great-grandkids, Bryton Hart, Riley Hart, MaKaylee Black, Gab Black, Brianna Carter, Braxtin Kuhn, Devan Kuhn, Evan Kuhn, and Katie Kuhn; a sister, Anita Bryant and her husband Norman, of Sprinfield, Missouri; a brother, Harold Highly of Jacksonville, Florida; many nieces, nephews, and loving friends.
Ellen was born and raised in Carthage, Missouri. Her family later moved to Kansas and then on to California while she was still growing up. In the late 60’s Ellen moved to Hartville and started working for H.D. Lee to make ends meet and later worked as a cook in a number of different restaurants.
Ellen was a single mother of four children and never really had time for many hobbies. However, she did love to cook for everyone that would eat and enjoyed her Mountain Dew. Ellen was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. We celebrate her wonderful life and will always cherish the memories she created.

Private family burial will be in Steele Memorial Cemetery in Hartville, Missouri.
