Elma "Jean" Maxwell (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Elma “Jean” Maxwell, 82 of Conway passed away January 13, 2025 after a short battle of cancer with complications of a stroke. She was born on June 7, 1942 to Frank & Dorothy Havener near Winside, Nebraska. She graduated from Independence Kansas High School in 1959 and went to work as a Bell Telephone Operator. On June 26, 1960, she was united in marriage to Loyd D. Maxwell and to this union two sons were born, Dennis and Quentin.
In 1965 the family bought their farm near Conway where she farmed with her husband and raised their sons. Her hobbies were gardening, walking daily, reading, and oil painting. She enjoyed painting one day each week with true and faithful friends Ann Triplett, Norma Millard, Pat Cunningham, and Rose Calton. She was still painting when she passed away.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Dallas Havener; and her son, Dennis Maxwell (cancer, 2016). She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Loyd; her son, Quentin & wife Darla Maxwell; daughter-in-law, Sherry Maxwell; four grandchildren, Amanda Twyman & husband David, Jason Maxwell & his significant other Kelli, Amanda Simmonds & husband Jonathan, and Evan Austin; seven great-grandchildren, Emily and Cole Twyman, Jackson and Joshua Maxwell, Abigail and Clayton Simmonds, and Lennon Austin; two sisters, Sharon Bartee and Linda Havener; two brothers, Jay Havener & wife Kathi and Kevin Havener & wife Becky; and her sister-in-law, Leona Wade. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends who will all truly miss her.
A remembrance gathering of family and friends will be held at the Conway Community Building at a later time. Cremation rites were accorded under the care and direction of the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo.
