Elmer James Rogers (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Elmer James Rogers, son of Charley Andrew and Emma S. Tinsley Rogers, was born September 17, 1930, near Manes, Missouri. He departed this life Thursday, October 24, 2019, in his home, near Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-nine years, one month, and seven days.
On February 1, 1958, he was united in marriage to Eda Marie Kimrey, and to this union two daughters and one son were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Melvin Rogers; and a sister, Elsie Fisher.
Elmer is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Eda, of the home; two daughters, Kathy Light, and her husband, Kim, and Leona Colvin, and her husband, Frankie, all of Lebanon, Missouri; a son, James Rogers, of Lebanon, Missouri; three grandchildren, Brett Light, Ashton Light, and Keisha Colvin; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was raised in the Manes and Lynchburg communities. He then entered the military as a young man and served his country faithfully in the United States Army from 1951 until 1953, during the Korean War. He served as a medic in Japan during a part of his time in the Army. After being honorably discharged from the military, he returned to his home area, and began working for Mace’s Furniture in Roby, Missouri for several years. Once he and Eda were married, they made their home in the Lebanon area, and lovingly raised their children. Elmer was a civil service worker for five years, but was a devoted farmer for most of his life.
Elmer had made his profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Pine Creek Baptist Church.
In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, coon hunting, and doing woodworking projects. He had a feisty sense of humor and loved to laugh. His family was very dear to him and he especially enjoyed having time with his grandchildren.
Elmer was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them during his lifetime.
Memorial contributions to Pound Pullers or Pine Creek Cemetery may be made through the funeral home.
