Elsie Batten (Mansfield)'s Obituary
Elsie Marie Batten, daughter of Luther and Ethel Marie Vanlaningham Calhoun, was born April 6, 1944 in Exeter, California and departed this life on November 12, 2012 in Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, Missouri at the age of sixty-eight years, seven months and six days.
She was united in marriage to Michael Batten on May 7, 1961 and to this union two children were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.
Elsie is survived by one daughter, Charlene Batten of Mansfield, Missouri; two sons, Rick Batten and his wife Helen of Ava, Missouri and Mike Hill and his wife Saundra of Macomb, Missouri; a grandson who she raised, William “BJ” Batten and his wife Kellee of Robinson, Illinois as well as six other grandchildren who she loved dearly, Kimberly Hill Brower, Joey Hill, Jacob Batten, Jennifer Atchison, Ronnie Webster and Shyan Webster; nine great-grandchildren as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
When Elsie was four months old her family moved to Mansfield, Missouri where she was raised and attended Mansfield Schools. During her lifetime she worked as a waitress as well as spending much of her time cleaning, cooking, or whatever needed to be done for those who needed help in their homes.
Elsie had been attending Corinth Baptist Church.
There were many things she loved to do including bottle feeding calves, picking blackberries, digging herbs, gardening and canning.
In her spare time she loved playing bingo.
Elsie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and will cherish the many memories we have had with her.
