Elsie Marie Dodson (Hartville)'s Obituary
Elsie Marie Dodson, 81, of Davenport, Iowa, died surrounded by her family on Monday, May 20, 2019, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Thursday, May 23, 2019, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. A graveside service will be held in Missouri on Saturday. Memorials to Elsie’s family may be left at the funeral home (checks made payable to Paul Dodson).
The daughter of Willard and Virginia Peters, Elsie was born on Dec. 29, 1937, in Davenport. She graduated from Davenport High School in 1956. On June 23, 1956, she married Joseph Paul Dodson. The couple had four children: Steve, Mary, Donna and David. Elsie loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them cooking in the kitchen, making crafts, playing cards and attending concerts. She was an avid quilter and made dozens of beautifully hand-crafted quilts to share with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed crocheting, playing bingo, baking with her grandchildren, going to auctions with her husband, and watching Christmas movies with her daughter. Elsie was outgoing, funny and energetic, and loved to laugh with her family.
Those left to honor Elsie’s memory are her husband of almost 63 years, Paul of Davenport; one daughter, Mary (Donnie) Lowe of Brighton; one son, Steve Dodson of Des Moines; seven grandchildren: Patrick Dodson, Jessica (Erik) Lowe Vokes, Stacie Lowe and Catherine Ashton, Zachary Lowe, Michael (Ashley) Dodson, Bryan (Ashlee) Dodson and Ashley (Justin) McBurney; nine great-grandchildren: Elizabeth, Caden, Keadan, Kash, Kellen, Juliana, Hunter, Ryder and Raelynn; and special friends Benny and Pat Hyslope.
Preceding Elsie in death were her daughter, Donna Dodson, son, David Dodson and her parents.
