Elsie Martin's Obituary
Elsie Jewell Goss Martin March 20, 1913-March 23, 2010 97 Years and 3 Days Born March 20, 1913 in a log cabin on a farm just north of Cedar Gap, Missouri, Elsie was baptized at fifteen years old, at Antioch Church north of Cedar Gap. Elsie lived in Iowa from 1929-1933, and in 1934 she moved to Pittsburgh, Kansas where she married Tom R. Martin on September 1, 1934. Elsie and Tom moved to California in 1938 and lived there until 1987. In 1975, Tom passed away. Elsie later moved to Springfield, Missouri and lived there until July of 2009 when she returned to Mansfield, Missouri, where her nephew Bobby Ray Goss provided care for her. Elsie entered the Rocky Ridge Manor where she spent the remainder of her life. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Charley and Florence Goss; her husband Tom R. Martin; brothers and sisters, Thead, Ova, Elva, Alf, Charles, and Bill. She is survived by one sister, Annis Lorg; nephew Bobby R. Goss, and numerous other nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and friends. Elsie’s interests included sewing for the public up until she was 95 years old. She also loved to bowl and traveled and bowled in tournaments all over. Donations can be made to the St. John’s Hospice, American Cancer Society, Southwest Missouri Office on Aging, and the Cedar Gap Reunion. Graveside services and burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday March 26, 2010 in the Nancy Newton Cemetery under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Mansfield, Missouri. Return to top
