Elva (Roy) Tripp (Mansfield)'s Obituary
Elva (Roy) Tripp, age 92, died Sunday, December 10, 2017, at her home in Mansfield, Missouri, with her children by her side. She was born October 14, 1925, in Vera Cruz, Missouri, to Jason E. and Jessie (Roper) Roy. Her mother died when she was 12. She went to school in Ava and Jefferson City and moved to Mansfield during her high school years and never left.
Elva married Don N. Tripp on September 23, 1950. They were married 40 years, until his death in June of 1991.
She graduated from Mansfield High School in 1944. Elva worked at Se Ma No Electric Co-op for several years until her first child, Mary Beth, was born. After her second child, David, was born, she began a 20 year career as a rural mail carrier on Route 2 in Mansfield. After her husband’s death, she came out of retirement to take over active management of M & S Developments, Inc. which she continued into 2017.
Over the years, Elva was active in church and community affairs. She served on the board for the Wright County Children’s home. She was a 50+ year member of the Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy Matron, and a charter and active member of the Lioness Club. She actively supported the annual alumni banquet, which she didn’t miss until this year. During her younger years, she was one of the regular organizing and decorating crew.
Elva and Don loved to travel, including all over the United States, England, Austria, Spain, Germany, Italy, Greece and China. They took several cruises, including one to celebrate their 40th anniversary, on which they took their entire immediate family. In recent years, she spent the winters in Arizona with her daughter.
Elva was an avid and knowledgeable sports fan, loving basketball at all levels and the St. Louis Cardinals. She loved music and was diligent in keeping up with current events.
Elva made a profession of faith in Christ at 12 and was a member of the Mansfield First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Don, her parents Jason and Jessie Roy, her brothers and sisters-in-law: Paul (Velma) Hesterly; Roger (Jayle) Roy, Lawrence (Lizetta) Roy, Virgil (Helen) Roy, and Harvey (Eleanor) Roy, her beloved sister Mary (Bob) Blanchet, mother and father-in-law, OK (Karl) and Eula Tripp, brothers-in-law Paul and Gene Tripp, and several nephews and nieces. She is survived by her daughter Mary Beth of St. Louis, and son David and Norma of Mansfield, granddaughter McKenzie and husband Weston Walker of Houston, granddaughter Jessica and Jesse Woolman of Ava, grandson Jarod Coday (Jennifer Moore) of Hartville, grandson Dustin Coday (Carissa Roberts) of Mansfield, six great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews, great great great nieces and nephews, two sisters- in-law, Mary (Pepper) Tripp of San Jose and Arvella Tripp of Los Angeles, and many friends, old and new. All will miss her and cherish the many wonderful memories.
Family will receive friends at Elva’s home at their convenience.
