Elvin Fullington (Hartville)'s Obituary
Elvin Eugene “Gene” Fullington, son of Jesse James and Anna Belle Stephenson Fullington, was born July 9, 1932 in Hartville, Missouri. He departed this life Tuesday, July 1, 2014 in his home, Hartville, Missouri, at the age of eighty-one years, eleven months, and twenty-one days.
On September 5, 1952, Gene was united in marriage to Nannie Ruth Mace and to this union seven children were born.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jesse Fullington, on May 24, 2014; grandchildren, Mike Moore, Loman Darell Fullington Day, and Chris Dodson; a great-great-granddaughter, Sara Louise Fullington; a brother, Floyd Moore; and a sister, Nellie Fullington.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth, of the home; children, Calvin Eugene Fullington and wife Doris, of Hawthorn, Florida, Darell Fullington, of Highlandville, Missouri, Roger Fullington and wife Lorri, of Tonganoxie, Kansas, Robert Fullington and wife Debbie, of Basehor, Kansas, Gary Fullington and wife Tewana, of Hartville, Missouri, and Cindy Moore and husband Jay, of Hartville, Missouri; a daughter-in-law, Linda Fullington, of Hartville, Missouri; grandchildren, Kristina Mae Fullington, Melissa Jeanette West and husband Heath, Randy Darell Fullington and wife Mayze, Jason Wiseman, Shawn Dale Fullington and wife Kaylene, Brigit Lynne Little and husband Chris, Joshua Michael Fullington and wife Rachael, Jeremiah Robert Fullington and wife Samantha, Ritchie Russell and wife Airicka, Patrick Russell, William Fullington and wife Ashley, Justin Elijah Fullington and wife Sara, Keisha Joy Fullington, and Jeff Moore and wife Dawn; twenty-three great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald R. Fullington and wife Kathy, and Solon Moore; three sisters, Pauline Moore and husband Richard, Sharon Ybarra, and Shirley Owens and husband Raymond; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
Gene spent his younger years living in Hartville. Following his marriage to Ruth, the young couple moved to Basehor, Kansas, where Gene worked in a cement factory and Inland cold storage until moving back to Hartville in 1976. Gene became the Pastor of Red Hill Pentecostal Church in 1976 and faithfully served there until retiring from pastoral work in 2009. In 1983, Gene started the Gene Fullington and Son General Repair and worked daily in his shop, repairing lawnmowers, chain saws, and many other small engines, until his retirement on July 1, 2013.
Gene was attending Hill Top Pentecostal Church at the time of his passing.
He served the city of Hartville as Mayor from 1994 to 1998, and as a councilman from 1990 to 1994, and from 1998 to 2001.
Gene was an honest man, and a hard worker. He took pride in his work and made many friends throughout the years. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family, and had read the bible from cover to cover over fifty times.
Gene was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will treasure the many wonderful memories he has created for his family and many dear friends.
