Emma Martin's Obituary
Emma Icyphine Martin, daughter of Henry Reeves and Etta Jane Bentch Elmore, was born December 28, 1914, near Camdenton, Missouri. She departed this life Tuesday, December 1, 2009, in her home, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-four years, eleven months, and three days. On October 28, 1941, in Springfield, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Johnnie E. Martin, and they shared thirty years before his passing on August 1, 1972. She was also preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Emmitt, Wayne, Edward, Gordon, and Charles Elmore; and a sister, Edith Faye Robertson. Emma is survived by two sisters, Effie Henson, and Irene Henson, both of Lebanon, Missouri; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in Camden County, Missouri and received her education there. She began working at the Rice Stix Factory as a young lady, and continued with the H. D. Lee Company for a time. After she and Johnnie were married, they made their home in the Lebanon area. Later, and for many years, Emma worked as a sales clerk at O’Neil Variety Store in downtown Lebanon. Emma made her profession of faith in Christ at an early age and joined the Antioch Baptist Church. In 1953, she transferred her membership to First Baptist Church, where she was actively involved in many areas of church work. She was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post # 4107 Ladies Auxiliary and the Disabled American Veterans Post # 51 Ladies Auxiliary. In her spare time she enjoyed fishing, knitting, and gardening. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed her nieces and nephews. Emma was a loving sister, and aunt, and was a kind and caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them throughout the years. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday December 5, 2009 at the Holman- Howe Funeral Home Lebanon. Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery. Visitation is Friday Evening 7-8:30 p.m. under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri. A memorial has been established to the First Baptist Church.
