Emma Rogers' Obituary
Emma Woodrow Rogers, daughter of Forlisco Robert and Clara Jane Stewart Eilenstein, was born March 5, 1913, near Lebanon, Missouri. She departed this life Wednesday, December 30, 2009, in her home, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-six years, nine months, and twenty-five days. On August 13, 1930, she was united in marriage to Vernon Rogers, and to this union one daughter was born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon, on October 21, 1991; a brother, Herman Eilenstein; and nine sisters, Sadie Riley, Maggie Eilenstein, Norma Harvey, Bertha Goans, Myrtle Weber, Blanche Wilson, Mary Rogers, Della Jones, and Jane Morris. Emma is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Vivian and Donald Davis, of Lebanon, Missouri; a granddaughter, Donica Basnett, and her husband, David, of Beaumont, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Chase Basnett, of Twenty-nine Palms, California, and Cherish Basnett, of Riverside, California; two sisters, Dorothy Ross, and Anna Hazelwood, both of Lebanon, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in the Lebanon area. After she and Vernon were married, they made their home on their farm, near Lebanon, and lovingly raised their daughter. In addition to being a devoted homemaker to her husband and daughter, Emma also worked at the Rice Stix Factory and continued with the H. D. Lee Company for many years. After retiring, she worked for the Lebanon Greenhouse for a few years. Emma made her profession of belief in Christ in 1928, and followed the Baptist faith throughout her life. She had attended Heritage Baptist Temple in Lebanon for many years, and greatly enjoyed the fellowship the church offered. In her spare time she enjoyed reading and sewing. She possessed a very loving heart and was especially devoted to her daughter. Some of her happiest moments were spent with her granddaughter and great-grandchildren. Emma was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a very caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them throughout the years. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday January 2, 2010 at the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial will be at Mt. Rose Memroial Park under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri. Return to top
