Emmett King (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Emmett A. King, son of Alpha and Wilma Thomas King, was born September 1, 1921, near Falcon, Missouri. He departed this life Monday, June 3, 2013, in his home, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-one years, nine months, and two days.
On July 12, 1944, he was united in marriage to Freda Eldora Phillips, and to this union three sons were born. Freda passed away on June 12, 1976.
He married Mary Elizabeth Christie on December 28, 1977.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gary Lee King; three brothers, Calvin, Alphadon, and Eldon King; and three sisters, Louise Lewis, Alvina Rogers, and Vernetta Reid.
Emmett is survived by two sons, J.D. King, and his wife, Donna, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Errol King, and his wife, Pauline, of Springfield, Missouri; six grandchildren, Chad King, and his wife, Amy, Cary King, and his wife, Lori, Phil King, and his wife, Darcy, Jason King, Shawn Jones, and Brandy King; ten great-grandchildren, Kaitlen, Kasen, Emma, Rachel, Jaden, Lane, Mikayla, Trevor, Shiloh, and Levi; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in the Falcon, Missouri area and attended Barnett District # 66 School. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army Air Corps from August 11, 1942, until February 6, 1946, during World War II. After being honorably discharged from the Army Air Corps, Emmett returned to Missouri, where he and Freda made their home near Lebanon, and lovingly raised their sons. He worked for S. P. Gas Company for thirteen years and then was employed as a civil service worker in the heating department at Fort Leonard Wood for several years.
Emmett was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lebanon.
In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors where his favorite activities were fishing, and picking blackberries. He also enjoyed playing cards and was a fan of the Missouri State University Lady Bears. His family was very important to him and he centered his life around his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Emmett was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be remembered as a devoted family man, a dedicated soldier, a hard worker, and a good friend to many.
