Ernest Daniel Cone (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Ernest Daniel Cone Jr. age 93 of Bolivar, Missouri, passed away at Mt Vernon Veterans’ Home on October 24, 2015.
Ernest was born September 10, 1922 in Kansas City, Missouri the son of Ernest Cone Sr. and Ruth (Bender) Cone. He married the love of his life, Lilah Marie Earhart, on December 12, 1942 and three children were born in the union.
Ernest served in the United States Army Air Corps as a pilot during World War II and was stationed in the South Pacific. He saved many lives by flying supplies to the troops and flying the wounded from the battle to safety to receive medical care. Ernest worked as an Air Traffic Controller after serving in the military and was a great family man. He also spent 55 years as a builder and land developer until he retired in 2005. He developed Lake Forest Subdivision on Pomme de Terre Lake in Pittsburg, Missouri. While living there he served as a Deputy Sheriff and founded the Pittsburg Fire Department.
Ernest was always blessed with many wonderful friends. He was a member of Berean Baptist Church of Bolivar, Missouri.
Ernest loved family; the outdoors (including hunting, fishing, flowers, gardening, as well as animals); and living in a rural area. He enjoyed spending his winters with his wife in Arizona in their motor home while surrounded by friends. Some of the highlights of his life were his Air Corps Reunions and the Ozark Honor Flight to Washington D.C.
Ernest is survived by his wife, Lilah M. Cone, of Bolivar, Missouri; three children --Nancy Hoke of Canyon Lake, California , Sharon Underwood of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Bruce Cone of Lawson, Missouri; six grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Ernest will be greatly missed but his family rejoices knowing he is with the Lord and they will one day be reunited.
