Ernest Lindesmith (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Ernest Eugene Lindesmith, son of Jerry Benson and Maggie O’Dell Lindesmith, was born December 18, 1935, in County Line, Oklahoma. He departed this life Friday, June 12, 2015, in Lebanon South Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-nine years, five months, and twenty-five days.
On June 19, 1954, he was united in marriage to Nancy Lura Lee Templin and this union was blessed with one daughter and three sons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jay and Warren; and two sisters, Dorothy and Velma; as well as several infant siblings.
Ernie is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Nancy, of the home; a daughter, Cheryl Goosmer, of Anchorage, Alaska; three sons, Mike Lindesmith, of Springfield, Missouri, Stan Lindesmith, and his wife, Lisa, of Apex, North Carolina, and John Lindesmith, and his wife, Kelly, of Jefferson City, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Jeremy, Chris, Michell, Olivia, Emily, Glenn, William, Gina, and Aaron; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Millie Cornelison, Deloris Kennedy, both of Austin, Texas, and Margie Gough, of the State of Alabama; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was raised in Fox, Oklahoma and graduated from El Reno High School. Six months later, he joined the United States Air Force and served for twenty years before retiring. Ernie was a linguist, interpreter, translator, and interrogator for the Air Force and he and Nancy made their home in various locations while raising their family. After retiring from the military in 1974, Ernie and the family moved to Lebanon, Missouri, and he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Southwest Missouri University in 1980. He worked as a teacher for a short time and then began a career as a rural mail carrier for the U. S. Postal Service for a number of years.
Ernie was an active member of St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Lebanon, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was a founding member of the Lebanon Elks Lodge # 2557, and served as secretary for five years. He also belonged to the V.F.W. Post # 4107. In his spare time he enjoyed doing carpentry work, doing crossword puzzles, playing on the computer, and particularly tracing his genealogy. His family was very important to him and he especially liked spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ernest was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and know that his family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories he made for them during his seventy-nine years.
