Esther Lucile Jones, daughter of Ernest Arthur and Minnie Etta Pease Lund, was born December 11, 1917 in Cedar, Kansas and departed this life on April 10, 2014 in Rocky Ridge Manor in Mansfield, Missouri at the age of ninety-six years, four months and twenty-nine days.
She was united in marriage to Orville Coleman Jones on October 1, 1939. Orville preceded her in death on December 1, 1973. Esther was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Arthur and Paul Lund and a nephew, Bill Lund.
Esther is survived by a brother, Walter Lund of Holton, Kansas; several nieces and nephews and their families.
She was born in Kansas and moved with her family to Mansfield, Missouri in 1918 at the age of three months. She graduated from Mansfield High School in the Class of 1937 and went to Springfield Teachers College for two years. She and Orville had owned and operated stores in Kansas City, Missouri and Lenexa, Kansas in the 1940’s and 1950’s before moving back to Mansfield in 1965 and opening Jones Bargain Spot.
Esther had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Mansfield United Methodist Church and was a longtime Sunday school teacher there.
She was a member of the Mansfield Hospital Auxiliary, Mansfield Historical Society and Ozark Mtn. Players and volunteered at the Mansfield Crisis Center. In 2007, she was the Parade Marshal for the Mansfield Christmas Parade and that was something she was very proud of.
In her spare time, Esther enjoyed all church functions, traveling, quilting and especially running her store. She made over 35 piece lap robes and gave them to wheelchair and nursing home patients.
Esther was a loving sister, aunt and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her long life and will cherish the fond memories we have had with her.
