Ethel Atwell's Obituary
Ethel Mae Atwell, daughter of Clyde L. and Winnifred J. Spencer Lane, was born November 20, 1920, in Dixon, Missouri. She departed this life Wednesday, January 25, 2006, in St. Mary’s Hospital, Jefferson City, Missouri, at the age of seventy-five years, two months and five days. On May 10, 1946, she was united in marriage to Floyd T. Atwell, and to this union five daughters and one son were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd; two daughters, Mary Louise Atwell, and Linda Carol Brakee; a granddaughter, Amanda Lux; and a sister, Helen Lane. Ethel is survived by three daughters, Gloria McCombs, and her husband, Harold Victor, of Jefferson City, Missouri, Theresa Tracy, and her companion, Roy Mount, of Columbia, Missouri, and Patti Dickinson, and her husband, Jeff, of Willard, Missouri; a son, Dan Atwell, and his wife, Diane, of Osage Beach, Missouri; fifteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; twenty-two great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bill Lane, and his wife, Vergie, of Crocker, Missouri, James Lane, of St. Louis, Missouri, and Ralph Rook, and his wife, Judy, of Jellico, Tennessee, as well as a host of other relative and many good friends. She was raised in the Dixon, Missouri area and attended school there. After her marriage to Floyd, they moved to Michigan and began their family. In 1953, they moved to Iberia, Missouri, where they lovingly raised their children. In 1970, they moved to Linn Creek, Missouri. Ethel worked as a seamstress and outfitter for Ft. Leonard Wood for many years. Ethel was a member of the Iberia V.F.W. Auxiliary, the Richland American Legion Auxiliary, the Linn Creek Rebekah Lodge #464; the National Association of Government Employees, and TOPS of Camdenton. Ethel was baptized in the 1940’s and became a member of Pisgah Baptist Church in Dixon. She later attended the Iberia Church of the Nazarene. After moving to Linn Creek, she became a member of Linn Creek Baptist Church. She was currently attending the Freedom Church of Christ. In her free time, Ethel enjoyed quilting, attending TOPS meetings, and growing flowers. She had enjoyed attended the Missouri State Fair each year for the last twenty-five years. She had made many close friends throughout the years and always kept in touch with them. She loved people and did many self-less acts throughout her lifetime. Ethel was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a loving and caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2006, in the Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Atwell-Tyler Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6 - 8:00 p.m.under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton, Missouri.
