Ethel Cornelison's Obituary
Ethel Zell Cornelison, daughter of John Charles and Vada Beatrice Henson Buck, was born June 10, 1913, near Lebanon, Missouri. She departed this life Wednesday, August 27, 2008, in her granddaughter’s home, in Branson, Missouri, at the age of ninety-five years, two months, and seventeen days. On May 31, 1932, she was united in marriage to Marchie A. Cornelison, and to this union one son was born. She and Marchie shared fifty years together before his passing on June 9, 1982. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her daughter-in-law, Joan Cornelison; and two brothers, Warren and Harold Buck. Ethel is survived by her son, Marchie Cornelison, Jr., of Lebanon, Missouri; two grandchildren, Mark Cornelison, and his wife, Bonnie, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Dr. Diane Cornelison, of Branson, Missouri; four great-grandsons, Nathan and Matthew Cornelison, and Jamie and Joey Torrence; a brother, Charles Buck, of Lebanon, Missouri; three sisters, Pearl Wilson, of Springfield, Missouri, Helen King, of Stockton, California, and Bonnie Ervin, of Lebanon, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in rural Laclede County, Missouri, and was graduated from Lebanon High School. Later in her life, she attended Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri where she earned her bachelors and masters degrees. In addition to being a devoted homemaker to her husband and son, she also taught school at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri for twenty years before retiring in 1983. Ethel had made her profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Church of Christ. She also greatly loved old-fashioned gospel singing. In her spare time she enjoyed growing beautiful flowers, quilting, painting, and other arts and crafts. She greatly liked the holidays and particularly decorating with hundreds of Christmas lights. She was the family historian and enjoyed recording the family genealogy. She loved her family dearly and especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandsons. Ethel was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday August 29, 2008 at the Holman- Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial will be in theMt. Rose Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 7-8:30 pm under the direction of Holman- Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri. Return to top
