Ethel Duckworth's Obituary
Ethel Mae (Johnson) Duckworth, daughter of Emmitt (Bud) and Josie Johnson was born August 7, 1920, in Thornfield, Missouri. She departed this life Sunday, May 6, 2012, in Glenwood Healthcare in Seymour, Missouri, at the age of ninety-one years, eight months and twenty-nine days.
On June 17, 1936 she was united in marriage to Kenneth L. Duckworth and to this union one son was born. The young couple moved to California to work in the shipping yards during World War II and then returned to Ozarks to settle down and raise their family on a farm near Seymour, Missouri.
Ethel was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Seymour. She humbly served her Lord by caring for her family and friends. Her home was always open and she gave those she loved as safe place to fall. Ethel was known by the fruit of her labor, like the flowers she grew, her loved one’s bloomed under her care.
She is preceded in death by her husband of forty-eight years Kenneth Duckworth, her parents, her sisters Edith Kastning Silvey, Alma Haskins, Velma Adeline Johnson, Bernice Piland, Mary Alice Johnson; and her four brothers Armon Johnson, Sherman Johnson, Gene Johnson and Hersel Johnson.
Ethel leaves behind her son Randy Duckworth and Angie of Seymour, Missouri; several nieces, nephews and a host of neighbors and friends as well as a her special friend Kerman McSwain.
Over the years Ethel enjoyed riding her horses in the Seymour Saddle Club, working on the farm, tending to the garden and watching her flowers grow. She loved to spend time with her friends and neighbors and cherished time with her family. She loved to laugh and was quite a jokester. Sincerity, honesty, and a strong work ethic are the character traits that defined Ethel, but love is the legacy she leaves behind.
Ethel Duckworth was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will treasure the precious memories she created for all those who knew and loved her.
Services for Ethel Duckworth will be held Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 1 p.m. in the Holman Howe Chapel, Seymour, Missouri. Burial will follow at the Seymour Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Holman Howe Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2012 in the funeral home.
