Eual "Dick" Nichols' Obituary
Obituary: Eual “Dick” Nichols
On Friday, June 4, 2010, our dearly loved husband, father, “PaPa,” uncle, and brother went to be with the Lord Jesus. He is sadly missed, yet we rejoice in the truth that he lives still and we will someday be with him again.
Eual “Dick” Nichols was born on February 20, 1920 in Hartville, MO to parents Lawrence Acy and Marjorie Morris Nichols. He grew up in the Hartville/Seymour area and served in the US Coast Guard. Dick was a proud WWII Veteran and was looking forward to going on the Honor Flight to Washington DC with his son Dennis and his granddaughter and her husband, Lori and Bob Sturgill.
Dick married Wilma Baty on October 9, 1943 and to this loving union were born four children. He survived Wilma, who died at age 56.
On April 8, 1979 Dick and Olamae Pennington were joyfully united in marriage. They enjoyed their years together, watching and doting on the many children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren their joined families brought them. Dick loved every one of them and enjoyed spending time with his family. Dick retired from Roadway on May 15, 1980 after driving a big rig for 32 years.
He was happiest when he was farming, taking care of his livestock and tending his garden. He loved spending time with Olamae in their motorhome at Treasure Lake. They traveled extensively, visiting many interesting locations. Dick’s favorite trip was to Canada for fishing.
On May 20, 2010, Dick lost his grandson Brandon and deeply grieved his passing. Then, on May 27, 2010, he joyfully watched his grandson Kylie Clark be married in Florida. Through the many life events he experienced in his 90 years, he was always the strong, loving patriarch of his family, who will miss his presence profoundly.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his dearly loved wife Wilma, and his grandson Brandon Paudert, of whom he was extremely proud. He leaves behind to grieve him his precious wife and devoted helpmate Olamae, his six sisters Georgia Hession, Lincoln, CA, Wanda Jacobs, Las Vegas, NV, Virginia Herman, Republic, MO, Helen Rogers, Springfield, MO, Penny Scholfeld, Seymour, MO, and Lenora Cardwell, Seymour, MO; his children Linda and Bob Paudert of West Memphis AR, Dennis and Dottie Nichols, Springfield, MO, David and Janelle Nichols, Sparta, MO, Melanie and Ken Stafford, Seymour, MO, Ken and Peggy Pennington, Seymour, MO, Shirley and John Shores, Mountain Grove, MO, and Beverly and Jay Carter, Cotter, AR; his grandchildren Brian Paudert, Tony Tedesco Nichols, Gabrielle Nichols, Carley Nichols, Shannon Nichols, Holly Nelson, Dustin Nichols, Justin Stafford, and Cody Stafford, Kendra Clark, Lori Sturgill, Tawnia Woodward, Johnny Shores, Tony Shores, Sandy Smith, Stacey Wilson, and Scott Denney; 31 great-grandchildren, many dearly loved nieces and nephews, and a multitude of good friends.
Services are 2:30 p.m., Monday, June 7, 2010 in Holman-Howe Chapel in Seymour, Missouri. Burial with full military honors will be in Seymour Masonic Cemetery under direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour. Visitation will be 5-7:00 p.m., Sunday in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be sent to the Cedar Gap Baptist Church building fund in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 366, Seymour, Missouri 65746.
