On December 22, 1955, he was united in marriage to F. Loveta Richardson, and to this union one daughter and two sons were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; and two sisters, Wilma Pearce and Amy Chambers.
Eugene is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Loveta, of the home; a daughter, Marsha Keenan, and her husband, Dale, of Marshfield, Missouri; two sons, Michael Brown, and his wife, Mary, and Kent Brown, and his wife, Joann, all of Long Lane, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Matthew, Nathan, Kelby, Miranda, Camron, Ryan, Lindsay, and Haley; a sister, Beulah McGinnis, of Marshfield, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in the Competition, Missouri community, and graduated from Competition High School in the Class of 1949. He served in the United States Army for a time, being honorably discharged on June, 19, 1952. He then returned to Missouri, and in 1955, he and Loveta were married. They made their home on their farm in Competition, Missouri, then later moved to Long Lane, where they lovingly raised their children. Throughout the years, Gene became a very well respected farmer and stockman in the area.
Gene was a longtime member of the Church of Christ and was actively involved in the Lee’s Summit and Niangua Churches of Christ for many years.
He had served on the Board of Directors of the Dallas County M.F.A. Exchange for twelve years, and had also been a Vigortone dealer for several years. Early in his life, he enjoyed playing basketball and softball, and liked fishing and quail hunting. He enjoyed farming and caring for his cattle, and liked watching his grandchildren play sports and their involvement in FFA. He possessed an outgoing personality and greatly enjoyed visiting with people wherever he went.
Eugene was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and know that he will be fondly remembered as a devoted family man, a hardworking farmer and stockman, a good friend, and a true man of character.
Memorial donations may be made to New Hope Cemetery, and left at the funeral home.
