Eugene Peter Hayes (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Eugene Peter Hayes, son of Francis “Frank” and Rose Mailey Hayes, was born August 1, 1935, in Decorah, Iowa. He departed this life Thursday, January 2, 2020, in Cox South Medical Center, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of eighty-four years, five months, and one day.
On December 9, 2013, he was united in marriage to Estelita L. Mercader Luceno, and they shared the last six years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and five brothers, Paul William, Everett, Leo, Leonard, and Dale Hayes.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Estelita “Telly”, of the home; four step-daughters, Karla Layao, of Columbia, Missouri, Noemie Clark, of Lebanon, Missouri, Karen Lewis, and Yolly Houck, both of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren, Jacob Clark and Hannah Houck; two sisters, Fran Carlson, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Rose M. Ingram, of Lebanon, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in Iowa and then moved to Chicago, Illinois. He entered the military as a young man and served his country faithfully in the United States Air Force for a few years. After he was honorably discharged, he returned to Chicago and worked at a bank. He then moved to Missouri, and made his home in the Springfield area where he worked for Highland Dairy. He later moved to Buffalo before making his home in Lebanon.
Eugene was raised in the Catholic faith.
In his spare time he enjoyed driving around and fishing. He also liked spending time with his family.
Eugene was a loving husband step-father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him
