Eugene Wagner's Obituary
Hubert Eugene Wagner, son of Hubert (Herb) Eugene, Sr. and Clara Alice (Holding) Wagner was born June 22, 1941 in St. Paul, Kansas. He departed this life Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010 at his home near Seymour, Missouri at the age of sixty-eight years, nine months, and thirteen days. On September 27, 1996 he was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Herrick and together they have shared thirteen wonderful years. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Steve Smith. Eugene is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, of the home; his children, Merri Lynn Wagner, of Glasgow, Montana, Lance Smith and his wife, LaDonna, of Wichita, Kansas and Tonya Bowdre and her husband, Bob, of Eldorado, Kansas; thirteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Jim Wagner and his wife, Twila, and three sisters, his twin, Judy Altom and her husband, Coy, all of St. Paul, Kansas, Sue Reed and her husband, Carl of Quincy, Illinois, and Kay Peak and her husband, Howard of Girard, Kansas; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends. Eugene grew up in St. Paul and the Pittsburg, Kansas area and graduated from St. Paul High School in the Class of 1959. He was an outstanding athlete in school where he was a running back for the St. Paul Indian Football team, the MBL League, and set a track record for the 100 yard dash. Following high school he began his trucking career driving for Beachner Construction, Stock Aid, and Hoffer Trucking of Pittsburg. In 1986 he moved to Seymour, Missouri to make his home. Following his marriage to Barbara, they started Wagner Trucking Company, Incorporated and did team driving coast to coast until his health began to fail. Eugene and Barbara took great pride in their trucks, and they were complimented by fellow drivers as having the shiniest and best maintained trucks on the road. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the Golden Eagle, and was a lifetime member of the Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and hunting, and photographing outdoor scenery. He liked listening to country music and attending the Grand Ole’Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. Eugene was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and many accomplishments and will cherish the precious memories he created for his family and friends. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Old Mission Funeral Home in Wichita, Kansas. Burial in the White Chapel Cemetery. Local visitation is Thursday evening 6-7:30 p.m. at the Holman-Howe Funeral Home under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Seymour, Missouri. Return to top
