Eugene "Gene" Young (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Eugene D. “Gene” Young, son of Bryan and Cledith Emmerson Young, was born August 22, 1925, near Jerktail, in Wright County, Missouri. He departed this life Thursday, October 13, 2016, in Lebanon South Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-one years, two months, and twenty-one days.
On July 16, 1953, he was united in marriage to Wanda L. Noble, and to this union one daughter was born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Rillis Young; and a sister, Juanita Oller.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Wanda, of the home; a daughter, Vicky Loggins, and her husband, Alan, of Camdenton, Missouri; two granddaughters, Ashlee Ehman, and her husband, Frank Ehman, III, of Dallas, Texas, and Chelsea Pettitt, of Jackson, Mississippi; two great-grandchildren, Emmerson Ehman and Campbell Ehman; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was raised in the Competition, Missouri, community, and then lived for a time in Idaho, which he considered his second home. He then entered the military as a young man, and served his country faithfully in the United States Navy from July 31, 1944, until June 28, 1946, during World War II. He was part of the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and was honorably discharged with the rank of Gunner’s Mate Third Class. He returned to the Lebanon area and began a career in Civil Service at Fort Leonard Wood. He continued to work in the arms maintenance department for over thirty-four years before retiring. He and Wanda made their home near Lebanon and lovingly raised their daughter.
He enjoyed gardening and fishing in his spare time and also liked watching westerns. He enjoyed tinkering with mechanical things and had an appreciation for vintage items. He was particularly fond of his 1979 truck and liked working on it when he could. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed having time with his granddaughters and great-grandchildren.
Gene was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them during his ninety-one years.
Memorial donations to the Honor Flight Program may be made through the funeral home.
