Eva L Mays (Seymour)'s Obituary
Eva Lodene Mays, age 88 of Seymour, Missouri left this world for a better place on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri following a lingering illness.
Eva was born March 9, 1929 in Independence, Missouri, the 3rd of five daughters born to Mose Ipock and Sara Della (Gaskill) Ipock. She attended a country school near Mansfield and later Mansfield Public Schools, graduating from Mansfield High School in 1947. On November 30th in the year 1948, she was united in marriage to Jack Mays and to this union a son Roger was born. Eva was a farm and housewife until Roger was about 3, then she worked at the shoe factory in Mansfield and later worked for HD LEE in Seymour, retiring in 1992 after 25 years of employment as a seamstress. Eva’s husband Jack owned and operated Jack’s Body Shop in Seymour for many years and she and Roger spent time there with him some evenings and weekends. Eva had a lifelong love of beautiful flowers, raising African violets and peonies and many other yard flowers. She was a lifetime member of the Nazarene Church, attending Mansfield and then Seymour in later years. Upon retirement, Eva enjoyed walking with a group of friends at the Seymour YMCA and exercised with the Silver Sneakers as long as she was able.
Throughout her life, Eva was a pillar of strength to those around her. Her values, faith, and perseverance shaped the lives of those who touched her. Through thick and thin, she remained steadfast and upright. She sheltered her family in an umbrella of security and values. As she reached her twilight years, her strength of character never faltered, never failed. She continued to make the world fit to her expectations, creating a home wherever she was.
Eva was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack in 1992 and three sisters, Lois Corder, Esta Moody and Norma Bledsoe.
Surviving Eva is her son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Bess Mays of Seymour, MO; a sister Freda McCarty of Mountain Grove, MO; 3 grandchildren, Kimberly Hume of Wasola, MO, Travis Mays of Florence, KY, and Christopher Mays of Seymour, MO; 3 great grandchildren Shelby Hume, Crimson Mays and Kaiden Mays as well as several nieces and nephews.
