She was born and raised in South Dakota, where she attended school and helped on the family farm, raising chickens and geese. She later worked as a waitress in a local café. She went to California to visit and liked it so much she decided to stay. She worked in the orange groves and for Douglas Aircraft, where she met Lewis. After their marriage they continued to reside in California in the San Fernando Valley and started a Mobil gas station. They had the station for over thirty years and she also worked for Up John Laboratories as a technician from May 17, 1971 to May 16, 1986. In 1986 she started visiting Wright County, Missouri and decided to make her home there in the early 90’s.
Evelyn had made her profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, where she was baptized in February 2003. She was also a member of the Town and Country Extension Club in Mountain Grove.
She loved to travel the United States and Canada; she had also completed her dream to go to China to visit her sister. In her spare time she also enjoyed making beautiful quilts.
Evelyn was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she has created for her family and friends.
