Evelyn N Hastain (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Evelyn Naomi Brown Hastain was born on July 2, 1912, to Rollo G. and Rose Whitehead Brown on her grandparents homestead in the former Cheyenne-Arapaho Indian Territory of Oklahoma. She passed away on July 27, 2010 at the age of 98 years in Anchorage, Alaska.
When she was 15 years old her family moved to Fair Play, Missouri, where she graduated from high school. In 1930, she was united in marriage with her high school sweetheart, Leonard Hastain. They were married 68 years. They spent most of their lives in Polk County, Missouri, where they raised their family, and engaged in farm, dairy and livestock production.
Evelyn was saved in November of 1929 at Bismont Baptist Church near Fair Play, MO. She has been in the Missionary Baptist Church since 1953 at Pleasant Hill and Goodson, MO and Northstar in Alaska. She often spoke of her experiences in the Lord and the sure hope He put in her heart when she was born again. Thanks be to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, whose blood redeems us from the law of sin and death.
After the death of her husband in 1998, Evelyn moved to Anchorage, Alaska in 2000. She lived with her son and daughter-in-law, Kirk and Linda Hastain. She was active in her church community.
Evelyn was preceded in death by an infant son, William Thomas Hastain; her mother and stepfather, Rose and Albert Harvel; and her husband, Leonard.
Surviving children and their spouses are: Janice and Ernest Kopkau of Plainfield, IL, Max and Edna Hastain of Moscow, ID, Kirk and Linda Hastain of Anchorage, AK. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Steven Kopkau and Rhonda Klemick of Riverside, IL, Jocelyn Hastain Fenton and her husband, Garth, of Anchorage, AK, and Danny Compton of Columbia, MO. Evelyn lived to see her great-grandson, Raleigh Alexander Fenton. Her half-sister, Jo Ann Hopkins, resides in Fair Play, MO.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, July 31, 2010 at the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, Missouri. Burial will follow at Mount View Cemetery, in Polk, Missouri. A visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00pm, Friday evening at the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar.
