Evelyn Delores Warren (Bolivar)'s Obituary
EVELYN DELORES WARREN was born on June 16, 1929 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She died at the age of 84 on Friday, April 4, 2014 at Vintage Park of Osawatomie,in Osawatomie, Kansas. She was the second child of six born to Clarence Ova and Josephine Susan (Christian) Carlson. From childhood she was known as Dee to family and friends.
Dee grew up on a farm in the Colorado Springs area. Her family then moved to Missouri and Dee attended Bear Creek High School in Bear Creek, Missouri where she graduated with the class of 1948.
She later attended South West Baptist College in Bolivar, Missouri. For several years Dee was a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse in the Stockton, Missouri area. She taught seven grades in that one room.
On April 8, 1950 Dee married Arbie Dale Warren of Bolivar, Missouri, and they honeymooned in Camdenton, Missouri. The couple moved to Kansas City, Kansas, and became the parents of two sons, Marion and Larry. Arbie was a barber and he had his own barber shop in Kansas City, Kansas for more than twenty-seven years.
When Arbie died on September 17, 2013, the couple had been married for over sixty-three years. He built— and Dee decorated—most of the houses that they owned during those 63 years.
Dee was a full time homemaker and mother until 1954, when she attended the Dorothy Lee Modeling School. After she graduated, she modeled in the Kansas City area for many years.
The Warren family loved to travel around the country and on their many trips they enjoyed fishing, camping, and water skiing. After their sons were grown, Arbie took up motorcycle riding—a new way to enjoy traveling! Dee and Arbie traveled from East to West and everywhere in between. When Dee was injured in an auto accident and could not ride for long distances on the motorcycle, she merely followed him in the car.
They let nothing stop their travels. Dee also enjoyed shopping and was a very thrifty shopper, hitting all the sales and bargains the stores had to offer. She cornered the market in size 4B shoes. One of her favorite places—TJ Max.
After having lived in Kansas City and Basehor, Kansas for many years, Dee and Arbie moved to Vintage Park of Osawatomie in 2011. Dee was a member of the Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Basehor but became a member of the Paola, Kansas Congregation after moving to Miami County.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers: Delmont Carlson, Dean Carlson, and one sister, Rosetta Leonard.
She is survived by her son Larry Warren and his wife, Joy, of Louisburg, Kansas; her son Marion Warren and his wife, Laura, of Hopewell Junction, New York; her sister Melva (and husband, Orville) Bishop of Hemet, CA; her sister Charlotte (and husband, Arnold) Nielson of Cheney, Kansas; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
A Memorial service will be held Sunday, April 20, 2014 at 3:00 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness in Paola, Kansas.
