Farris Curtis' Obituary
Farris Owen Curtis, son of James Charles and Vera Glenn Honeycutt Curtis, was born March 29, 1919, on the family farm, near St. George, Missouri. He departed this life Saturday, January 24, 2010, in Cox Medical Center, South, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of ninety years, nine months and twenty-five days.
On November 13, 1948, he was united in marriage to Verda Eileen Henslee and to this union a son and daughter were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Verda on December 10, 2002, and a brother, Floyd.
Owen is survived by his son, Charlie Curtis, and his girlfriend, Denise Philpott, of Hartville, Missouri; his daughter, Sherry Curtis, of Mountain Grove, Missouri; five grandchildren, Codie Applegate Secrest and her husband, Cody, Michael Ashley Applegate, Emily Hunter Applegate, Dusty Charles Curtis and Dylan James Curtis; a number of nieces and nephews; and a very close friend, Mary Brockleman, of Lebanon, Missouri, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Born only a quarter of a mile from his farm, he resided nearly all of his life on the farmstead he loved so much. He and Verda worked side by side over the years caring for the farm and raising their family. His farming operation included beef cattle, operating a dairy, and raising the fox trotter horses, his pride and joy.
Throughout his life he had served on the Wright County Rural School Board, Elk Creek Township Board and the Pleasant Grove “Cope” Cemetery Board. He also had been an Auctioneer for several years. He was a Life Member of the of the Missouri Fox Trotter Association at Ava, and had judged many horse shows over the years.
In his spare time he also enjoyed raising and trading bird dogs and going quail hunting.
Owen was a loving father, grandfather and uncle, and was a caring friend and neighbor. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed, but the memories he created for his family and friends will live on in our hearts forever
Funeral services for Owen Curtis will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday January 27 2010, in Holman-Howe Chapel, Hartville, Missouri,
Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove "Cope" cemetery north of Hartville.
Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time Wednesday January 27 in the chapel.
