Fern Looney (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Fern Looney, daughter of Walter and Vina Gourley Bohannon, was born August 14, 1945, near Lebanon, Missouri. She departed this life Friday, May 19, 2017, in Mercy Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of seventy-one years, nine months, and five days.
On February 5, 1966, she was united in marriage to Raymond Otis Looney, and to this union two daughters were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond, on December 27, 2014; a daughter, Terry Looney; and a brother, Jim Bohannon.
Fern is survived by a daughter, Ramona Lucas, and her husband, Danny, of Strafford, Missouri; six grandchildren, Ethan, Cymber, Kenton, Christina, Christopher, and Michael; three great-grandchildren, Kinleigh, Cameron, and and Brantley; four sisters, Barb Decker, Florence Ruble, Dolly Hays, and Dorothy Elam, all of Lebanon, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in the Lebanon, Missouri area, and graduated from Lebanon High School. After she and Raymond were married, they made their home in Strafford, Missouri, and lovingly raised their daughters. Fern worked for the 76 Truck Stop in Strafford for several years, and then was employed by Bass Pro in Springfield for twenty-five years.
Fern had professed her faith in Christ and was a member of the Lebanon Church of the Nazarene during her younger years. She had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Strafford, Missouri for many years.
In her spare time she enjoyed going to garage sales and looking for bargains. She was very selfless and generous and liked buying things for others. She was a very patriotic person and cared deeply for her country. She was very proud and supportive of her daughter and son-in-law being foster parents. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Fern was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her lifetime.
Memorial donations to Mount Horeb Cemetery may be made through the funeral home.
