He was born and raised in the Competition community. As a young man, he joined the United States Army and served his country faithfully during World War II. After being honorably discharged, he and Berthenia made their home in the State of Washington for a few years, and then moved to Michigan. They eventually returned to the Lebanon, Missouri area, where they made their home on Taylor Avenue for over fifty years. Finis was employed as an electrical mechanic for England Armature in Lebanon for thirty-eight years.
Finis had professed his faith in Christ and was a longtime member of Crossroads Freewill Baptist Church.
In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors where his favorite activities were fishing, hunting, and gardening. He also liked bowling on a league team. He was also very proud of having shared an honor flight to Washington, D.C with his grandson, Shane, to see the World War II Memorial. His family was very important to him, and he especially enjoyed all of his grandchildren.
