Florence Hoxsey's Obituary
Florence Erma Hoxsey, daughter of Richard and Belle Rupe Fox, was born November 27, 1919, in Dixon, Iowa. She departed this life Saturday, November 28, 2009, in Christian Health Care South, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety years, and one day. On June 25, 1939, she was united in marriage to Richard Lee Hoxsey, and to this union two daughters and five sons were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard, in December of 1979; a son, Kenneth Hoxsey; a grandson, Jack Hoxsey, Jr.; two brothers, Harold and Charles; and a sister, Mable. Florence is survived by two daughters, Alyce Shaver, and her husband, Ronald, of Hillsborough, Iowa, and Nancy Chastain, and her husband, Jerry, of Phillipsburg, Missouri; four sons, Richard Hoxsey, and his wife, Frances, of Butler, Missouri, Jerry Hoxsey, and his wife, Carol, of Ottumwa, Iowa, Jack Hoxsey, and his wife, Colleen, of Harker Heights, Texas, and David Hoxsey, and his wife, Marsha, of Lebanon, Missouri; twenty-three grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in the Davenport, Iowa area, where she graduated from high school. After she and Richard were married, they made their home in the Davenport area and lovingly raised their family. In addition to being a devoted and hardworking homemaker to her husband and family, Florence also worked for the Peterson-Harlen Van Mares Restaurant for several years. Later, she moved to Lebanon, Missouri and made her home. Florence followed the Baptist faith throughout her life and had made her own personal relationship with her Lord and Savior. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and working puzzles. She possessed a very loving and caring personality and always put her family foremost in her life. Her happiest moments were spent with her family and she greatly enjoyed all of her grandchildren. Florence was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday December 3, 2009 at the Holman- Howe Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Rose Memorial Park.
