Flossie King's Obituary
Flossie Louise King, the third child of Jeremiah and Cecilia Thomson Koch, was born March 4, 1913, near Waynesville, Missouri. She departed this life Thursday, January 21, 2010, in the Willard Care Center, in Willard, Missouri, at the age of ninety-six years, ten months, and seventeen days. On August 27, 1939, she was united in marriage to Wilfrid Joseph “Pete” King, and to this union one daughter and one son were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilfrid, on February 18, 1977; and four sisters, Mary Roberts, Ethel Sutherland, Lenore Peterson, and Wealtha Koch. Flossie is survived by a daughter, Janice King, of Springfield, Missouri; a son, Gary King, and his wife, Susan, of Willard, Missouri; four grandchildren, Michael King, and his wife, Annie, David King, and his wife, Susan, Jennifer Thomas, and Andrew King, and his wife, Anna; two great-grandchildren, Tabris Thomas and Cecilia King; three brothers, John Koch, of Kansas City, Missouri, Oliver Koch, and his wife, Wanda, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Jeremiah Koch, and his wife, Katherine, of Elkland, Missouri; two sisters, Helen Anderson, and Carmen Westerfield, both of Lebanon, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in the Waynesville, Missouri area and then moved with her family near Lebanon, Missouri, when she was nine years old. After she and Wilfrid were married, they made their home in Lebanon and lovingly raised their children. In addition to being a devoted homemaker to her husband and family, Flossie also worked as a seamstress for over forty years. She was well known in Lebanon for her skillful alterations and her proficient creations of everything from draperies and table linens, to wedding dresses and ball gowns, and anything in between. Flossie had made her profession of faith in Christ and was a member of First Christian Church. Flossie’s talents didn’t end with needle and thread, as she could do most anything she put her mind to doing. She didn’t hesitate to get her hands dirty in the garden or to rake leaves. She could wallpaper and paint like a professional, and wield a hammer or saw, if necessary. She was always ready to help anyone in anyway she could, whether that meant her time, her work, or her money. Her family was very important to her and she was especially proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Flossie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday January 25, 2010 at the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon. Burial will be in the Calvary (Catholic) Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday afternoon 4-5:30 p.m. under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri. Return to top
