Floyd Butler's Obituary
Floyd Everett Butler, son of Edward and Emma Barnett Butler, was born November 1, 1920, near Sleeper, Missouri. He departed this life Friday, August 15, 2008, in his home, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-seven years, nine months, and fourteen days. On July 3, 1938, he was united in marriage to Eva Hazel Morgan, and together they shared fifty-two years before her passing on December 1, 1990. He was united in marriage to Lois A. Watkins Atchley on December 10, 1991, and she passed away on September 9, 1998. On May 14, 1999, he was united in marriage to Doris V. Mason McClung , who preceded him in death on October 8, 2006. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jack Butler; and two sisters, Nathaline Franks, and Mary Jane Dallas. Floyd is survived by a daughter, Veronica Meckem, and her husband, Mark, of Lebanon, Missouri; three grandsons, David Meckem, and his wife, Linda, Philip Meckem, and his wife, Laura, and Adam Meckem, all of Lebanon, Missouri; two great-grandchildren, Ryder and Alayna Meckem; a brother, Robert “Bob” Butler, and his wife, Betty, of Urbana, Missouri; a sister, Pauline Medley, and her husband, Tom, of Springfield, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends. He was born and raised in the Sleeper and Lebanon communities, and then served his country faithfully in the United States Army during World War II. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he and Hazel made their home in the Lebanon area. Floyd owned and operated the H.E.P. Supply Company in Lebanon for thirty-five years before selling the business and retiring in 1985. Floyd continued to make his home in Lebanon for most of his life and was very involved in the community. Floyd was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Lebanon, where he served as an usher for several years. In 2001, while attending services with Doris, he became a member of White Oak Pond Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He belonged to the Lebanon Kiwanis Club and was a member of the Lebanon Area Chamber of Commerce. He also was a supporter of the Hughes Senior Citizen Center throughout the years. In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors where his favorite activities were fishing, hunting, and caring for his yard. He also loved to travel and had made several trips across the country in his RV. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed his grandsons and great-grandchildren. Floyd was a loving family man, a dedicated businessman, and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and know that the wonderful memories he made for his family and friends will live on forever in their hearts. Services will be at 2:00 pm Sunday August 17, 2008 at Holman- Howe Funeral Home Lebanon. Entombment in the Chapel Masoleum at Mt. Rose Memorial Park. Visitation will be Saturday evening 7-8:30 pm under the direction of the Holman- Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri. Return to top
