Floyd "Bub" Carpenter (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Floyd “Bub” Carpenter, age 90, of Willard, MO, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025. He was born on January 11, 1935 in Morrisville, MO, to Edward and Margaret (Armstrong) Carpenter, the first of their 8 children. He graduated from Morrisville High School and excelled in basketball.
When Bub first saw his future wife, Norma Fern Redman, he told a friend he would marry her and on August 21,1954 he did just that. They began their marriage living in Morrisville where he worked on a farm and helped with a milk route before moving to northern Greene County, where he worked for 15 years at Lily Tulip and 27 years with Frisco and Burlington Northern Railroads. Together they had two children, Joe and Debbie. Bub and Fern spent their 62 years together hosting family and friends in their home, travelling, and attending the school, sporting, and life events of their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Bub loved spending the rest of his time reading, helping family when he saw a need, watching the Cardinals and Chiefs, hunting, and having friendly fishing competitions with Fern. He was also a member at True Hope Missionary Baptist Church.
Bub is survived by his children, Joe (Janet) Carpenter and Debbie Williams; grandchildren Corey (Lindsay) Carpenter, Casey (Emily) Carpenter, Caitlyn (Andrew) Dettmer, Marie (Kyle) Drenon, Jake (Zarene) Williams, and Wyatt (Maria) Williams; great-grandchildren Ethan, Ella, Sam, Will, and Lauren Carpenter, and Izaak, Calista, and River Williams; brother Rex (Pam) Carpenter, sisters Beverly (Grant) Hagle and Barbara (Frank) Artz, and many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his wife Fern, parents Edward and Margaret, brothers Jerry, Jim, and Johnny, and infant sister Linda Lou Carpenter.
A service celebrating Bub’s life will be held in Bolivar MO at Butler Funeral Home on Monday, February 3, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2025 from 1:00 p.m.- 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The burial will take place in Slagle Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
