Floyd Dawson's Obituary
Rev. Floyd Leslie Dawson, son of Morris M. and Ella Mae Morris Dawson, was born September 27, 1929, in Earlville, Iowa. He departed this life Saturday, June 10, 2006, in Cox Medical Center South, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of seventy-six years, eight months, and thirteen days. On July 12, 1986, he was united in marriage to Lois Evangel Goshorn, and together they shared the last twenty years. His parents preceded him in death. Les is survived by his wife, Evangel, of the home; two sons, Tim Dawson, and his wife, Joyce, of Independence, Iowa, and James V. “Jimmy” Guerrera, of Citrus Heights, California; seven daughters, Patricia A. Price, of Junction City, Oregon, Laura Madigan, and her husband, Michael, of Longmont, Colorado, Joyce A. Dawson, and her husband, Tim, of Independence, Iowa, Debra Ann Graber, and her husband, Tim, of Phoenix, Arizona, Anita Ruth Johnson, and her husband, Ted, of Sherwood, Oregon, Terri J. Wilcox, and her husband, Tom, of Yuba City, California, and Jackie Boac, of Citrus Heights, California; fifteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jimmy Dawson, and Glen Dawson, both of Guttenberg, Iowa, and LeRoy Dawson, of Solon, Iowa; a sister, Beulah Lafferty, of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in Iowa and graduated from high school there. He continued his education at Northwestern Bible College in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He then served his country faithfully in the United States Army from August 9, 1954, until March 3, 1956, with part of his time spent in Alaska. He began a career in carpentry and also served in the ministry in California for twenty years. Later, he moved to Nevada, then Iowa, and finally Lebanon, Missouri in 1999. After coming to Missouri, he continued to work in carpentry and also served as a hospice chaplain. Les was a member of Second Baptist Church of Lebanon, where he served as a Sunday school teacher. He also was a member of the Conservative Baptist Association throughout his life. He centered his life around his family and his ministry. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, and working with wood in his spare time. Les was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he made for his family and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2006, in the Second Baptist Church, Lebanon. Burial will be in the Veterans' Park in Mount Rose Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 7 - 8:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri. Memorial contributions to the Pregnancy Support Center or the New Tribes Mission Family may be made through the funeral home.
