SHOW – ME – STATE
Missouri men went to war when July was cold and gray
They did what they were told to do there was nothing they could say
With men they had never known before to a place they had never heard
They never knew the reason why but never said a word
They didn’t know the foreign foe and the august days came round
The sun had burned their boyish faces but they never made a sound
They never heard the silent word or the way that it destroys
They felt the pain as soldiers do but never make a noise
There on a sandy hill their life had ebbed away
They dreamed of home in a distant land, but there was nothing they could say
This is dedicated to all Missourians from the first to the last.
The people are what make Missouri a great state.
