Floyd Schoonmaker (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Floyd Charles Schoonmaker, age 88, entered into rest on Friday, July 28, 2023, at his home near Hermitage, Missouri.
Floyd was born on October 8, 1934, in Rockford, Illinois to the late Bion and Jenny (Swank) Schoonmaker. Following graduation from high school, Floyd enlisted in the United States Army. He served during the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany during his enlistment, there he learned Morse code. Floyd always sought to learn something new. He would order kits in the mail to learn a new craft. Through this, he enjoyed stain glass work, upholstery, and building model trains. Floyd loved trains, big or small, he collected them all. He was a member of the Train Club in Springfield, Missouri.
On December 19, 2014, Floyd was united in marriage to Leah Hiles. Together they enjoyed traveling. They took a number of bus tours. The tours took them to New York, Mackinac Island in Michigan, and to New Mexico. In New Mexico, the enjoyed the hot air balloon festival. From New Mexico, they traveled by train on the Silverton to Colorado. While in Colorado, they enjoyed the beauty of Pikes Peak.
Floyd was a member of the Tunas Christian Church. Together with Leah, Floyd attended Bethan Assembly of God in Hermitage, Missouri.
Floyd was preceded by his parents, Bion and Jenny Schoonmaker. He is survived by his wife, Leah Schoonmaker, beloved friends Tim and Jennifer Phillips, Clif and Donna Smith, and Rodney Harmon.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Cantlon-Otterness and Viets Funeral Home, Buffalo. Visitation service will be held the hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are asked to be given to the Carrie J. Babb Cancer Center in Bolivar, Missouri.
