Francis Delcour's Obituary
Francis William Delcour was born May 23, 1928 near Manes, Missouri, the only child of John C. and Bertha M. (Dorris) Delcour . He passed away Friday, January 28, 2011 at Christian Health Care in Nixa, Missouri at the age of 82.
Francis was an excellent pool player, spending many hours playing with his buddies at the Senior Center in West Plains. In his younger years he was an avid quail hunter and fisherman, and was a life long St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was a baseball player and instilled a rabid love for the game in both his sons.
Francis was a great dad, a proud, doting grandfather, and an all around good guy. He struggled with alcohol, but had been sober for 25 years and was quick to tell you he never regretted getting sober. In 1996, when his granddaughter, Jerica, was born he quit a 50 year smoking habit, saying he wanted to be around to see her grow up. He faced his demons head on and faced death the same way. Four days before he died he said he was ready to go and ceased all treatment and medication. His faith in God never wavered, and he will be waiting for us with outstretched arms. He ran a good race, fought a good fight, and is now at peace.
Francis is survived by his long-time companion Wilma Liljestrand of Nixa, Mo., his ex-wife and mother of his sons, Geleta Adams; his sons Jerry and Janet Delcour of Hurley, Mo. and Dan Delcour and Connie Medlock of Nixa. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Marianne Delcour Taylor of Springfield, Mo. and Jerica Delcour of Hurley, Mo., and great-granddaughter Geneva Taylor, Palmyra, Missouri.
Funeral services will be Monday January 31, 2011 in Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Hartville, Missouri at 10 AM. Burial will follow in the Dorris Cemetery North of Hartville.
Visitation will be from 4-6 PM Sunday January 30 in the Funeral Home.
