Fred Aldon Campbell (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Fred Aldon “Papa” Campbell son of Neal “Red” and Orpha (Patton) Campbell, was born January 21, 1940, in Midway, AR. He left this life and went home to be with his Savior, on Sept 2, 2017, in Buffalo, MO. He was home with family and friends, just the way he wanted it to be. He was 77 years old.
Fred married the love of his life Marjorie Ellen (Verbeck) Campbell on June 22, 1960. They enjoyed 57 years together, and had 3 children. Brett Aldon Campbell, Lori Ellen (Campbell) Sillmann Sr., and Steven Lloyd Campbell.
Papa was raised in Flippin, AR. In high school, he was active in sports and became part of a popular trio, The Ivy League Trio. They sang at school functions, fairs, and events. After high school, he moved to Wichita, KS. Where he met and married Marjorie Verbeck. They soon moved to Wyoming and lived there for several years, where Papa worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. They moved their family to NM, where he worked for the phone company until early retirement. After a few more homes and jobs in KS, OK, and CO they settled in Buffalo MO. Wanderlust satisfied, Papa became the pastor of his little church for the past 9 years of his life.
Papa was a gentle giant loved by all who met him. He loved fiercely, God first, his wife and family next, his friends and church family, and the lost. Papa was a talented singer and musician. He spent all his life singing with various partners and groups. He wrote beautiful songs during his life, and two of them “Forgiven” and “Holding Hands” in the last 3 months of his life. Papa wrote holding lands for Marjorie for their 57th anniversary.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother John, sister-in-law Clara, nieces Marilyn and Yvonne, nephew Gregg, and grandson “Baby Brett Campbell. Fred is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie, of the home, son, Brett, of Buffalo MO, daughter, Lori and her husband Brian Sillmann, of Buffalo MO, and son, Steven and his wife Launa, of Springfield MO, grandson, Brian Robert Sillmann Jr. and wife Amy, granddaughter, Ashli Jonelle (Campbell) Noonan, granddaughter, Tamara Kay (Arndt) Persons, granddaughter, Marjorie Lois Ellen (Sillmann) Hayward and husband Jon, granddaughter, Stephanie Ann (Campbell) Vose, and grandson, Benjamin Aldon Lloyd Sillmann and wife Danielle. He has six great grandchildren, Colton, Kenneth, Cherish, Robby, Noah, and Steven. He is survived by two brothers, Bruce Campbell and wife Sue, Ken Campbell and wife Mary, two sisters-in-law, Lois Welch and Dorothy Johnson, two brothers-in-law, Jack Verbeck and wife Annie and Jerry Verbeck and wife Linda, and a multitude of very loved nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, great grandnieces and great grandnephews.
Papa was a Godly loving man who made everyone feel loved and accepted. His big kind heart, gentle voice, and warm smile made this world a better place for all who met him.
