Fred Harry Hoyt, son of Frederick Ralph and Lydia L. Daelintjer Hoyt, was born April 28, 1928, in St. Louis, Missouri. He departed this life Tuesday, March 10, 2009, in his home, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty years, ten months, and twelve days. On January 23, 1955, he was united in marriage to Thelma Lucille Osborn, and to this union one son was born. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Lucille, on December 17, 2005. Fred is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Frederick Ray and Marsha Hoyt, of Lebanon, Missouri; three grandsons, Richard Hoyt, of Lebanon, Missouri, Paul Hoyt, of Eldridge, Missouri, and Derrick Hoyt, of Springfield, Missouri; five great-grandchildren, Ashlyn, Kylee, Kaitlyn, Chasadie, and Paul Clayton; three step-grandchildren, Alicia Davis, and her husband, Darrell, Ward Hedgepath, and his wife, Cheri, and Shannon Crosby, and her husband, Cezar; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends. He was raised in East St. Louis, Missouri and left home during his teenage years. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army from 1952 until 1972, during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After he and Lucille were married, they made their home in various locations where Fred was stationed. Upon retiring from the Army, they made their home near Lebanon, and Fred attended Agricultural School. For the next several years, Fred owned and operated a cattle farm and specialized in Limousin Cattle stock. He was one of the first farmers to bring Limousin stock to Laclede County and had a favorite bull named Cracker Jack. In 2001, he retired from farming, and he and Lucille moved into Lebanon. Fred had made his profession of faith in Christ and was a longtime active member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. Throughout the years, he had served as a Senior Elder and as the church treasurer. He also belonged to the Limousin Breeders Association and served as a record keeper for the Harrill Cemetery for several years. In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors where he liked to go deer, rabbit, squirrel, turkey and quail hunting, and also fishing for catfish. He enjoyed having coffee most mornings at the coffee shop and visiting with his buddies and friends. Fred was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life, and will remember him as a devoted family man, a patriotic serviceman, a dedicated farmer, and a good friend.
