Fred Marshall (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Fred Michael Marshall, 73, passed away on May 2, 2023 with his loving wife Marsha, of almost 51 years, by his side.
Fred was born on June 3, 1949, to Jack and Doris in Springfield, Missouri. After graduating from Hillcrest High School he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served four years and was appointed Private First-Class Reserve. When he returned home, he reunited with his childhood playmate (who’s tricycle he used to tear up) Marsha Waggoner. After eight months of lunch dates, Fred vowed to never tear up Marsha’s tricycle again, and they were united in marriage on June 30, 1972. Of this union, they were blessed with three beautiful children; Julie (Spiegel), Jennifer (Marshall-Hoggatt) and Jason.
Fred was Controller for Orval Davis Tire in Bolivar, for 17 years. He also served as Collections Manager at Great Southern Bank and various companies for the remainder of his career.
Fred was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, in Springfield. He enjoyed playing softball; sometimes playing in two tournaments in one weekend and pitching over twelve games. He played on several softball teams including the Asbury Church team, Davis Tire, Post Office, and ending his softball career playing with his daughter, Jennifer. He loved watching and playing sports, family photography, boating, and traveling with family. He will be remembered as a loving, and caring husband, father, and Papaw.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jack Marshall, and step-mother Faye Marshall, his mother Doris Newman, and step-father Floyd Newman, his daughter Julie Spiegel, his grandson Levi Spiegel, and brother Kenny Newman.
Fred is survived by his wife Marsha Marshall, his daughter Jennifer Marshall-Hoggatt and husband Andy, his son Jason Marshall and wife Hollie, son-in-law Rick Spiegel, sister-in-law Corina Newman, two nieces, five nephews and (stuffed family member) Ferddy. He is survived by grandchildren, Whitney Spiegel, Elias Spiegel, Rebekah Mauschbaugh, Eryn Smith, Payton Marshall, Gavin Marshall, and Hudson Hoggatt.
Donations can be made in honor of Fred to the Asbury United Methodist Church in Springfield, Missouri. Services for Fred will be held 10:00 AM Monday, May 8 2023 at the Asbury United Methodist Church 1500 S. Campbell Ave. Springfield, MO 65807. Visitation will be held 1:00 PM -3:00 PM Sunday, May 7, 2023 at the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, MO. Burial will follow services Monday at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Springfield.
